Middletown All-Stars win the 10/11 District 19 Softball Tournament

The Middletown 10/11 Softball All-Stars captured the NJ District 19 Title by defeating the Lincroft Little League All-Stars 17 – 3. This was Middletown’s second victory over cross-town rival Lincroft in the District 19 Tournament. Middletown defeated Lincroft  14-0 on Monday night.  The girls had a great series in which they dominated with their pitching, hitting and defense.In game one, Kristi Miceli was the winning pitcher as she threw a no-hitter.  She also led the team’s hitting attack with three doubles and five RBIs.  Nikki Alfano, Julia Beck and Liz Gulino added to the offensive outburst with multi-hit games and two RBIs apiece.  Middletown busted the game open in the second and third innings scoring six runs in each inning.  Timely hits by Phoenix Starick and Kelly Rasmussen led the way.

Kendall Keelen was the winning pitcher in game 2.  Middletown sent 16 batters to the plate in the first inning to jump out in front 11-0.  The offensive attack this time was led by Julia Beck, Phoenix Starick, and Noelle Vizzone who each had three hits and drove in two runs.  Liz Gulino and Kristi Miceli also drove in four runs each in the game.  Solid defense by Nikki Alfano, Danielle Colucci, Nicolette Curran, and Sam Politano held the Lincroft team in check. Injured Nicolette Scheinhartz was the bat girl and supported her team throughout the tournament.

Next up for the girls is the Sectional Tournament which will be hosted in North Wall beginning July 24th.
